When Can My Child Take Formal Music Lessons?
 

I've heard that question thousands of times in the last ten years!  Every child is different, but generally, unless you are working with a teacher or program which incorporates 'play time' and a well thought-out, developmentally appropriate curriculum, you are wasting your money if you start them too young!   Formal lessons require children to have a good attention span, ensure that they will practice, and are 'mechanically' able to manage an instrument.   
Our new FIG (FILL IN THE GAP) music class, taught by Gail Burnett (Miss Gail) , will help  your almost five - seven year old grow musically and help prepare them for formal instrument lessons down the road.

We will blend new activities, skills and challenges suited to this age range with 'fun' structure which will lay the foundation for further and more formal music learning... These activities include basic rhythm notation, large and small movement and dances, vocal awareness and singing, solfege, games, drumming, basic conducting, improvisation, 'music' stories AND UKULELE!!  Each child will get their own ukulele as part of class materials. It is a fun and fairly easy instrument for this age to start with.  So technically, we are learning an instrument, but one that can be learned in a manageable way for this age group.

The fee for this ten week offering includes a 1 hour and 10 minute weekly class, materials, AND the child's own ukulele (available in several fun colors; we will be ordering these after the start of classes and beginning instruction on the third week of class)


Requirements

Ages:  Almost 5 - 7.  Your child MUST BE FIVE YEARS OLD BY JANUARY 1, 2013.  No exceptions! They can join our class in January if they fall just short of this age requirement.  *Parents are required to pick up at 1:50 so they can attend the last ten minutes of each class.  This time will be used to share with you how to help your child grow musically at home until our next class session.

 

Tuition and materials:  $155 for ten week, 70 MINUTE class plus $45 materials fee (includes ukulele, music and written materials)

Dates: Mondays, January 7 – March 25  
 

Time: 12:50 - *2:00 PM  If your child will be coming directly from school or home school classes, lunch will need to be provided for them and child will need to be walked to the room and picked up by a parent.  We will not be able to provide a 'lunch monitor' service.  This is a 'drop-off' class, but parents are welcome to stay if they wish!  (no younger siblings can participate unless they meet guidelines and are registered). 


 

If you are interested in an 'after school' (3:30 or 4:00 PM) class, please email us. If we have enough attendees, we will start offering this time in January.
