youth mentoring ministry: |
...is focused on children who do not have an active second parent in his or her life. The second parent may have died, is in jail, or has abandoned the family. Youth mentoring is a proven way to lift the spirit of a child and assist in developing them to their fullest potential for the glory of God. |
|
what is mentoring: |
Mentoring is when a caring adult spends 2-3 hour per week with a child who shares similar interests. Mentoring is proven effective in helping vulnerable youth move beyond their obstacles, achieve greater self confidence and assists in fulfilling their individual potential. All mentoring relationships are designed to be one-on-one, adult to youth friendships. Mentors must be 20 years of age or older, and the children must be between the ages of 8-15. All relationships are matched with the same gender (male-to-male, female-to-female). |
|
effective training & support: |
We not only take care in choosing the right mentor for the right youth, we support the mentor, youth and family throughout the mentoring relationship. Training is a key part of the preparation and matching process. The Perimeter Church Youth Mentoring Ministry Team is available for advice, training and resources to help the protégé, mentor and family enjoy and develop a lasting relationship.
While mentoring is proven to be effective, it needs to be managed in a professional manner. Mentoring programs that do not follow excellent screening, training and support can be more harmful than helpful. The Ministry Team has been trained to use the best methods and procedures to ensure that the mentors and protégés have the highest quality experiences as they build their relationships.

what does it take to be a mentor: |
We strive to find the best mentors for the youth and families in our community. All of our mentors go through the following process:
Application
Four references
Interview Orientation
National Background check
Mentors must be a member of Perimeter Church and have been a Christian for at least a year. We also ask that each mentor have at least 2-3 hours per week available to commit to being with the child.

|
how do i find a mentor for my child? |
Just as we strive to find the best mentors for the youth, we go through great lengths to understand the current setting and needs of each child. There is an interview process that would take place and then we’d begin matching the child with the best adult mentor. |
|
help for parents who are parenting solo: |
Mother, if you have a son without a father in his life and Father, if you have a daughter without a mother in her life, we encourage you to consider pairing your 8-15 year old child with a Christian Mentor. |
