CAROL ANNE BROOKER LIGHT

February 26, 1942 - February 24, 2019

Carol Anne Brooker Light entered eternal glory on February 24, 2019 at her home in Cumming, Georgia.

The cause of her death is unknown. Diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 4, 2017, she initially was treated in the conventional way with chemotherapy. After that treatment and an autologous stem cell transplant in November 2017, she entered a brief period of remission. A few months later, she was advised that her cancer had returned, and there were no conventional treatments available other than clinical trials.

Alerted by a friend as to the success of alternative, naturalistic/holistic approaches to treating the cancer, she entered into the program and made exceptional progress, leading to encouragement that she just might beat her illness. However, a month ago, faced with a damaged bone marrow that was not producing healthy red and white cells and platelets in sufficient quantity and quality to avoid weekly infusions of blood, resulting in a permanent condition of anemia, her organs began to fail and her condition worsened and her surprisingly quick death occurred on February 24. Her 20 month battle was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Carol is survived by her husband, Douglas Wayne Light, daughters Katherine M. Light of Sharon, MA and Anne Elizabeth Wright and Husband Bryan of Denver, CO and son Gregory Sumner Light and his Wife Tara of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Alexander, Zachary, and DJ Light of Sharon, MA; Torin, Blake, and Sebastian Wright, Denver, CO; and Emily and Harrison Light, Roswell, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Arthur Raymond Brooker, and her brother, Ray Brooker, Jr.

Carol was born on February 26, 1942 in Evansville, IN. At the age of two, she moved with her parents to Louisville, KY, 2820 Reidling Drive. She attended George Rogers Clark Elementary, Barret Middle School and graduated from Atherton High School in 1960; she received a Bachelor of Arts from Hanover College of Indiana in 1964 in Elementary Education. Carol married Wayne on September 3, 1966, and they were in the 53rdyear of a wonderfully joyous marriage. After 3 years of military life, the Lights resided initially in Wheaton, IL for 6 years, moved to Pittsford, NY in 1976, resided there for 18 years, and then moved for retirement to the Atlanta, GA area in 1994.

Carol’s primary focus was on her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A member of Perimeter Presbyterian Church, PCA since 1996, Carol devoted much of her volunteer time in Georgia to Community Bible Study, CBS, an international organization for women. For over 20 years she was in leadership with that organization where she served 100’s of women in helping them to study the Bible and grow in their relationship with the Lord. During their time in Pittsford, NY, Carol and Wayne were leaders with United Marriage Encounter and presented weekends throughout the United States and internationally for 13 years. They were also active at Perimeter in working with couples who were engaged to be married, and couples who needed guidance in their marriages.
