Tanzania Bound (AGAIN!)

Dear friends and supporters,

Once again, I’m off to Tanzania! This summer I am leading a teacher team to Tanzania to teach the teachers at the school we support in the village of Karansi. This particular team consists of some veterans of past trips and several new people. That is a particularly good balance as the more people we have go, the higher our commitment level can be over time, and we always want new people to catch the vision.

Many of you have supported me in the past, so this will be familiar to you: we raise our own support – about $3500, mostly for airfare, but also for our in-country expenses for the 2 week trip. Unfortunately, the summer is the most expensive time to travel, but since we are all teachers, it’s the best time for us to go. Their school year is on a completely different calendar than ours, which is helpful for our training purposes. The school is out in June, but the teachers, bless them, spend the last week of their break in seminars with us. The new term begins in our second week there, so we can be in the classrooms with the teachers, coming alongside them to implement the things we taught the previous week. This summer some of our topics are Implementing the Bible in curriculum subjects, teaching Art and Drama in the classroom, and Using Books as a part of the Curriculum. Tanzania has a pretty strict, narrow curriculum, and we are always looking for ways to deepen and enliven their lessons. We have “seasoned” teachers going this time, as well as a couple of younger teachers, so once again, balance seems to be the part we can play.

Of course, I would love you and your family to support me monetarily, but I also hope you will join me in prayer for this. I would appreciate prayers for:

  • Team unity (we don’t all know each other, but we want a united front and for them to see love between us)
  • Team safety, good connections to various flights, and for all of our luggage to make it with no additional complications
  • A real out-pouring of God’s Spirit on our teaching and their comprehending; we want our teaching to bring life to their lessons, and they want that, too.
  • The various moving parts, literally, of this; we travel there, travel to and from the school each day, travel in-country for the last few days – a lot of time spent on roads that you’d have to see to believe!
  •
  • And, as always, for the teachers and students to see Jesus in us and to want what we have in Him. There are many opportunities for one-on-one conversations, so please pray that those are a blessing.
  •
  • As well, please pray that the Lord works in our own hearts to show us and teach us the lessons He has for us. We may be the teachers, but we’re also the students!
  •
  •

This is what our seminars look like!

Personally, I get to re-connect with people I have known for over a decade, see my sponsored child (who’s now in high school), spend time with my former sponsored child (who’s on staff with Youth With a Mission in a nearby village), worship at the village church, see children I’ve literally watched grow up, and visit in the homes of people who are like family by now. Their lives are hard, but they have so much joy that it humbles me and blesses me at the same time.

You can give on-line by going to https://www.perimeter.org/journeys/95/members/777 or you can ask me for a card and envelope to give. I’ll update you in a few weeks with, hopefully, good news on how it’s going. God is always so faithful to provide, and I love sharing those stories.

Many blessings,

Miriam
