CHILDREN'S MEMBERSHIP

Children's Communing Membership Orientation

If your child is interested in becoming a communing member at Perimeter, parent and child are invited to attend a special orientation class to learn about our parent-led Bible study used to prepare children for communing membership. Children should be at least seven years old and have a desire to start the membership process.

HOW DOES MY CHILD BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH?

The children of believers are, through the covenant and by right of birth, non-communing members of the church. Hence they are entitled to Baptism, and to the pastoral oversight, instruction and government of the church, with a view to their embracing Christ and thus possessing personally all benefits of the covenant. (PCA, Book of Church Order, 6-1)

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NON-COMMUNING MEMBER AND A COMMUNING MEMBER OF THE CHURCH?

Communing members are those who have made a profession of faith in Christ, have been baptized, and have been admitted by the Session to the Lord's Table. (PCA, Book of Church Order, 6-2)

HOW DOES MY CHILD BECOME A COMMUNING MEMBER OF THE CHURCH?

Perimeter has an eight lesson, parent led workbook study to prepare your child for communing membership.

GUIDELINES
  • The child should between seven and twelve years old.

  • The parent should feel confident that the child has exhibited both through his knowledge and the fruit of his life that he knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

  • The child should have a desire to begin the process. It should not be entirely parent driven.

  • Parent and child study a wonderful curriculum (written by Bobby Scott, Headmaster of Perimeter Christian School) together at home. It typically takes 8-12 weeks to complete the materials.

  • An orientation class to begin the membership process is held 3-5 times per year. At this orientation, parents and children will receive materials and instructions necessary to complete the membership process. Time is allotted for questions.

  • Once the lessons are completed, an elder appointment will be scheduled.

  • If the child was not baptized as an infant or before going through children's membership, then contact information about how to register your child for baptism will be given at the elder appointment.

  • Please note that by age 17 years old, the child  will need to complete adult membership to be a full voting member at Perimeter Church.
