Gently-Used Book Drive

Now through Sunday, April 14

Why A Children’s Book Drive?

It's hard to imagine growing up without books. But, this is the sad reality for millions of American children in low-income families. In fact, The Literacy Project foundation notes that 6 out of 10 households in the U.S. do not buy a single book in a year. Children who grow up without the early development that comes from reading face obstacles when they enter school and may cause them to be at a disadvantage their whole lives.

Over one million children drop out of school each year costing our nation over 240 billion dollars over their lifetime in lost earnings, foregone tax revenues and expenditures for social services.

Two-thirds of children who can’t read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up incarcerated or on public assistance.

Did you know that 65% of the children in Georgia lack the necessary vocabulary and reading comprehension skills necessary to succeed?

We believe a literate child is the foundation of a thriving community. By providing access to books we are giving children the resources to develop literacy skills and to experience the joy and imagination of reading.

How can you help?

Pick up a canvas bag located at all entrances, fill it gently used or new children’s books for pre-school through elementary age children, bring your bag filled with books back by Sunday, April 14, and drop on the book carts that will be located at all entrances. If you have lots of books fill additional bags or boxes and bring those in too.  Consider hosting your own book drive - invite your neighbors, friends, family and co-workers to join you.

Together we can change the story of children. Our goal is to collect over 2,000 books for kids. Donated books will go to local elementary school students and their families. Other beneficiaries include our non-profit partners who offer after-school and tutoring programs and teachers to share with their students needing extra help in reading.

If you would like to gift a child with reading, but don’t have children’s books in your home, you can make a financial donation to our book drive using the "book drive financial donation" button below. You might also want to consider donating books directly to a school in your city.  An easy way to do this is through your schools online bookfairs. Click on the "bookfair finder" button below, type in your zipcode, and find bookfairs happening now.

Please note: we are unable to accept damaged books, magazines, coloring books, encyclopedias, textbooks, school sets, or books for adults.

Literacy is the foundation of all successful learning. Without reading, students do not have the skills they need to be successful in their academic careers, and their life options are limited.

Thank you for sharing our vision that ALL children, regardless of means, grow up surrounded by and experiencing books!
