The word culture comes from the Latin “cultus” which means care or value. So, to say that a certain group has a culture is to say that there is something that group most values or cares about. There are innumerable cultures at play in our world … some are tied to institutions; others are tied to people groups. But what is the culture of the Church? What is she to most value and care about? The Scriptures lead us to answer that question with one word: worship. To worship God is the greatest value of His Church. Or, as the Westminster Divines put it, the greatest value of the Church is “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” That is the essence of worship. This series will focus on defining biblical worship and what it looks like for the Church to be a people of biblical worship.
