The Gift of Time: Discipleship in the Home

Perimeter Students

Student Ministries Pastoral Letter | February 2025

As we step into February, we are reminded of the beautiful rhythm God has woven into creation—times of gathering and times of resting, moments of pouring out and moments of being filled. As a Student Ministry, we cherish our time together with students but also recognize that some of the most significant places of discipleship happen not in a church building, but in the home. Whether in a moment of honest questions, contagious laughter, a repeated point of conflict, or the comforting embrace of persistent love, our homes are filled with opportunities for continued sanctification in God’s truth and grace.

In Deuteronomy 6:4-7 God calls us to keep the Lord and His instructions, as preeminent. He tells us, “These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Discipleship is woven into the everyday—around the dinner table, in car rides, through conversations, and in quiet moments of prayer. Discipleship is a communal work we are brought together for, but God has specially ordained parents to be the primary disciplers of their children. Therefore, as we partner together in raising disciples for Christ, we want to be mindful of your roles in this, which involves giving space for that sacred work to unfold in your homes.

For this reason, we have strategically built into our schedule weekends off—so that Sunday evenings can be given back to families. Our hope is that this is not just time off, but time on purpose—a chance to invest in relationships, create meaningful rhythms, and step further into the calling of making disciples at home.

May we use this gift of time well, pointing each other to Christ, the One who is always making all things new.

Together in Christ and for His kingdom flourishing,
