In Mark 16:3–4, the women ask, “Who will roll away the stone?” The barrier was large, immovable. They assumed someone would need to move it for them.
Easter reveals something unexpected: God had already done it.
Christianity is not built on spiritual performance (what we do to reach God). It rests solely on what God has done for us.
The stone symbolizes the greater barrier of sin (Genesis 3). Through Christ’s perfect life, sacrificial death, and resurrection, God removes the sin that we cannot remove for ourselves. God’s justice is satisfied. His mercy is poured out through the shed blood of Jesus. And through the resurrection, all who trust in Christ for salvation experience His resurrection power and grace as they enter new life with Him.
The resurrection declares that access to God does not depend on our ability to move the stone, but on trusting the One who moved it for us.
