In Luke 22–23, the disciples argue about greatness just before Jesus goes to the cross. They expect victory to look like power.
But in John 12:32, Jesus declares, “When I am lifted up… I will draw all people to myself.” His glory would come through crucifixion.
What appeared as defeat was the greatest victory ever won. Darkness at midday, a mocking sign above His head, yet in shame and death, sin was defeated.
Jesus took our selfish ambition and bore humiliation in our place. He took our death and gave us life.
Good Friday reminds us that the cross was not failure — it was triumph.
