The cross has happened. The tomb is sealed. Luke tells us simply: “On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment” (Luke 23:56). Meanwhile, religious leaders secure the tomb (Matthew 27).
It looked like death had won. Yet heaven was not inactive. Matthew records that tombs were opened at Jesus’ death — though the fullness would not appear until resurrection.
Holy Saturday teaches us that waiting is not wasted. Silence does not mean absence.
In the in-between, after the heartbreak, before the restoration, God is still working.
The tomb was sealed. But the story was not finished.

Reflection Questions:
- Where in my life am I living in an “in-between” season (after the heartbreak but before the restoration)?
- When God feels silent, do I interpret that silence as absence, or can I trust that He may be doing unseen work beneath the surface?
- What would it look like for me to practice faithful obedience in waiting, like the disciples who “rested according to the commandment” (Luke 23:56)?
- Is there a promise of God I need to cling to right now, even though I cannot yet see how the story will unfold?
