Dear friends,                                                                                                              May 18th, 2018

I Hope you are doing well! I have finished my freshman year of college and am looking forward to heading back to CNU in the fall. But before I do that, I want to tell you about a trip I am going on.

This summer, I will be traveling to Karansi, Tanzania, in Africa, for a mission’s trip with my cousin Jerry Thames. Over fifteen years, Jerry has been working with his church (Perimeter Church in GA), and their child sponsorship program, Project Child, to see a local village, “the little lost village”, transform from an HIV devastated village to a village in the region known as the “widows village,” through the communities lifting up and caring for the many widows in the village.  The school, which was built to provide education to the many orphans and the poorest of the poor, is now consistently rated in the top 10% within the country.  The mission of this trip is to continue to bring better health to the village and to improve the science capabilities of the teachers and students in the schools.  I will be going with a team of seven from about July 26th-August 5th.  I am so excited!

While there, I will be teaching lower-level science to teachers and students there, as well as helping with medical check-ups for the kids.  An even more exciting part of this trip is the fact that I will get to visit the place where my grandma was born, in Tengeru- which just happens to be very close to this village!  Her parents ended up there, at a Polish refugee camp, during World War II. It is an amazing story of how God works in our lives– my cousin Jerry remembered talking to my great grandmother at my parents wedding – he is the one that realized many years later that that refugee camp was likely the place my grandma was born!  There is so much family history over there, and I am excited to explore it.

As I am preparing to go on this trip, I am working on raising money toward it. My goal is $3500. I would greatly appreciate whatever you are able to give, and completely understand if you cannot. If you are able to give, please send the money in the attached letter. If writing a check, you can make it out to Perimeter Church, write “Tanzania trip-July 26” in the notes, and then include the note that says it is for me. That would be great!

Finally, I ask for prayer for me and my team as we are getting ready to head to Tanzania. I know that God is working in awesome ways over there, and I’m looking forward to how he will use me there. Thank you in advance for any help that you are able to send my way!

Blessings,

Alyssa Walker
