Obituary
Amy Katheryn Wood was welcomed into the arms of her Lord on November 4, 2025. Born in Durham, North Carolina, Amy was the first-born child of Thomas and Violet (Hudson) Wood. She graduated with honors from Warner Robins High School, where she was an active member of the Beta Club and the French Club—early reflections of her lifelong drive and achievement.
Amy began her college education at the Georgia Institute of Technology before pausing her studies following marriage, briefly taking the name Amy Paulk. She later resumed her education as Amy Wood and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduating with high honors.
Her professional career began with AT&T, where she served faithfully throughout her entire career. She retired from the company in 2020. During her distinguished tenure, Amy received numerous awards and certifications from both AT&T and Lucent Technologies. She was part owner of a patent developed through Lucent Labs and was featured in the 18th Edition of Who’s Who of American Women. Notably, she served as AT&T’s site manager during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Amy remained an active member of the Project Management Institute until her retirement.
Amy’s greatest joy came from her family. She lovingly adopted her son, Jonathan Wood, whom she often called her greatest achievement. Jonathan and his wife, Lauren Short Wood, blessed her with two grandchildren, Camden and Sarah, who were her heart’s delight.
Amy embraced her role as the eldest sibling with dedication and love. She served as the primary caregiver for her parents in their later years and continued to be the anchor that held her family together. She was a trusted advisor, steadfast supporter, and cherished friend—both the bossy big sister and the kind, loving confidant.
A devoted member of Perimeter Church for more than thirty years, Amy was well known and deeply loved within her covenant family community. Following her retirement, she was honored to serve as a Shepherdess, a role she fulfilled with compassion, integrity and faithfulness for as long as she was able.
Amy faced her battle with cancer with strength, courage, and unwavering faith. Though she ultimately lost that earthly battle, her spirit remained unbroken. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Amy is survived by her son, Jonathan Wood, and his wife, Lauren Short Wood; grandchildren, Camden and Sarah; sister, Gail Wood; brother, Tommy Wood, and his wife, Jill H. Wood; nephews, Maxwell and Andrew Wood; as well as cousins and her beloved aunt, Joyce.
