Obituary

Diane Drake Sumner, 85, of Duluth passed away June 17, 2020.

Born February 7, 1935, in Atlanta, Diane was the daughter of the late Hubert Samuel Drake and Martha Jeter Drake. She graduated from Auburn University in 1957 and soon after married Fred Sumner. After teaching second grade for two years, she devoted her time and heart in raising her two daughters. In later years she cherished time spent with her two grandsons. Not only was family important, she never knew a stranger. She made friends easily as she moved at least 15 times over the course of her life. She volunteered as a hospital auxiliary for many years, and she loved serving as a greeter at church. With her gift of hospitality, she enjoyed hosting people in her home. A lover of travel, she visited numerous states and countries. Her faith in God guided and comforted her throughout her life.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Owen Sumner, and a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Walter Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Boldt (David) and Ellen Sumner; and grandchildren, Jason Boldt and Brandon Boldt.
