Obituary
Edgar (Ed) Anderson Myers Jr, affectionately known as “Happy” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at 97 years of age in Atlanta, Georgia. Born April 12, 1928, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who made family, church, and his home a priority. He was a man known for his kindness, friendly demeanor, and a willingness to help others in need.
Ed met the love of his life, Anne, a dental hygienist, in the historic Chandler building in downtown Atlanta where they both worked. Together they began a legacy marked by devotion to each other, family, and faith in God. Ed was a faithful servant to his church, Haygood Memorial Methodist Church, and later at Perimeter Church where he served on the building committee and as a Deacon. He loved serving and volunteering when needed, touching lives with his generosity and kindness. In his later years he delighted in the simple things of life, especially swinging on the porch swing with grandkids and embracing every moment. His interests and passions were his yard, flower and vegetable garden, and feeding the birds.
His professional life was inspired by a high school teacher who saw his talent in drafting and design, who encouraged him to pursue his passion in architectural and design. He later moved to Atlanta, attended Georgia Tech and committed his career in designing masterful award-winning custom homes, apartments, and bank offices in the Atlanta and surrounding area. He opened his first design office, Dekalb Home Planning Service, in Decatur, during the mid-1950’s amid the housing boom. He received awards and accolades for his house and apartment designs and served as president of American Institute of Building Design (ASID). Ed’s signature design style was the adaptation of Historic Williamsburg. Having grown up in New England, Ed favored and meticulously studied the historic homes to incorporate into his house designs. He retired after 60 years of designing homes but maintained relationships with his clients, some of whom became lasting family friends. He was thoughtful of his client’s wishes, took personal pride in each design, and left each homeowner with a legacy home. Ed recently quoted, “I never had a bad day at the office, I loved what I did and did the best I could.”
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 74 years, Anne Williams Myers, and preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Anderson Myers, Sr, and Ruth Groce Myers, his sister Rachel Myers Miller and brother Richard (Dick) Myers. His legacy continues through his two daughters Mindy Oglesby (Joe) and Paige Pattillo (David), and son Edgar (Chip) Anderson Myers III (Lisa). He was graciously blessed with nine grandchildren – Whitney Oglesby, Rebecca Miller, and Preston Oglesby; Alex Pattillo, John Pattillo, and Caroline Barron; Nathan Myers, Will Myers, and Anna Louise Wherry – as well as fifteen great-grandchildren.
Ed’s memory will be held in the hearts of his loved ones as we celebrate a life well lived, full of moments that will be treasured forever. His story is not just one of personal achievements and accolades but one of the countless lives he touched. He will be missed, but his spirit will live on forever.
