Obituary

Mr. Gordon Jay Moore passed peacefully from this life and on to his heavenly home on April 20, 2025, after undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.
Born September 22, 1954, to Abner Boise “AB” Moore and Kathern “Irene” Moore in Fort Riley, Kansas where his father was stationed in the army. The family later moved to Fort Benning, Georgia followed by foreign assignments in Bamberg, Germany and Taichung, Taiwan then back to Columbus, Georgia and Fort Benning. He graduated from Columbus High School and Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi where he met the love of his life, Joy. They married on May 31, 1975, and shared 50 happy years together raising their two daughters, Amy and Ashley.
Gordon loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved the book of Proverbs and was considered by many to be a wise counselor. He was also a gifted planner and used those gifts as he served on staff at Perimeter Church for 39 years as the Chief Operations/Financial Officer and retiring as the Director of Generosity. While his roles were operational in nature at the church, he always viewed his work and the work of everyone he worked with at Perimeter from the janitor to the preacher in the pulpit as ministers and co-laborers in furthering the gospel in Atlanta and around the world. He was instrumental in leading and guiding many key programs and helping a rapidly growing congregation navigate in developing local and worldwide ministries that have touched lives all over the world. He also had a financial planning practice with his daughter, Amy, for 9 years where they had the privilege of working with families to bring clarity, peace, and joy to their financial lives.
A gentle man of wisdom and integrity, Gordon’s mentorship and friendship endeared him to everyone who knew him. He was an avid golfer and loved playing with his friends and later teaching his grandson Luke how to play. Legendary for sports history/trivia he was the go-to resource for many friends and family.
Gordon loved his family. Joy truly was the love of his life, and you needed only to spend a few minutes with them to see that their love was deep, genuine, and true. Or as his daughter Ashley calls it “the real deal.” He was incredibly supportive of both his daughters and was an active, caring, and involved grandfather. Guided by his faith always, Gordon was truly an example of faith in action.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife Joy, cherished daughters, Amy Shirley and Ashley Emigh (Justin). He was the adored Gdaddy to beloved grandchildren, Luke and Abby Shirley. Other survivors are his sister Linda Olive (Mike), brother Stan (Cathy), sister Beverly Orck (Kevin) as well as numerous other close cherished family members, and friendships that span many decades. He was preceded in death by his parents, AB and Irene Moore and his son-in-law, Josh Shirley.
The family thanks so many friends, neighbors, and church members for their support, especially over the past few months.
