Obituary

Jeffrey Wayne Orwick, lovingly known as Jeff, was born on November 26, 1958.

Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose life was rooted in faith, family, and service to others.

Jeff loved spending time with his family and never took the little moments for granted. His favorite memories were the ordinary ones, such as a conversation with a loved one while sipping coffee or a grandchild sitting on his lap watching a show together.

In his youth through collegiate years, Jeff actively participated in football, basketball, and baseball. His former teammates held a special place in his heart and many of them became lifelong friends. He passed his love for all three sports on to his kids and grandkids. As a young adult, Jeff excelled on the tennis court as well. For Jeff, the lessons one learns playing and competing in sports mattered far more than the number of wins or losses.

Jeff possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and servant heart that resulted in him spending the majority of his career as a real estate agent alongside his wife. Jeff had a knack for breaking down the process of home buying and selling in a way that always put his clients at ease. His communication skills and love for providing exceptional customer service led to his pivotal role in the family tutoring business, FAST Mentoring. Jeff cherished working with his three children and imparting a love for learning and a sense of belonging in the students who walked in the door for a session. Jeff’s belief in serving the needs of his community also led to his involvement as a community coach for the Mt. Pisgah football team for two years and his choice to serve as a substitute teacher in the middle and high school.

In all aspects of his life, Jeff strived to model Jesus through his actions as he held on to the promise in John 14:6 spoken by Jesus, who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

He is survived by his mother, RuthAnn Parkins; his beloved wife, Zanne Orwick; and his children, Kyle Orwick, Kasey (Michael) Saari, and Taylor Orwick. Jeff was especially proud of his four grandchildren—Jake, Brenna, Sydney, and Luke Saari—who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life.

He is also survived by his sister, Kelly (Mark) McCullough; her children, their spouses, and grandchildren; his brother, David (Steve) Orwick; as well as Zanne’s siblings and their families.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Orwick; and his grandparents, John and LaDonna Orwick, and Carl and Ruth Hissong.
