Obituary
Shirley Irene Edgcombe Miller, 89, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024. Born on January 2, 1935, in Flushing, Michigan, to the late Ralph and Florence Edgcombe, Shirley lived a life filled with love, faith, and cherished memories.
She was one of seven siblings, preceded in death by her brothers Buddy, Larry, James, and Jack, and sister June. Her surviving sister, Ann Miller of Flint, Michigan, carries on their shared memories.
A graduate of Dye High School, Shirley attended Central Michigan College of Education and later became certified as a Water Safety Instructor by the American Red Cross. She taught swimming at the Flint YWCA, helping young girls and elderly women build confidence in the water.
Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Clint Anthony Miller, in 1955, and together they raised six children—Kim Parker (Mark), Kris Miller, Kristy Sue Hurst (John), Kevin Miller (Renee), Kelly Miller Laughlin (Rod), and the late Kregg Miller. She was a proud grandmother to 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Her faith in Jesus Christ guided her throughout her life. Shirley cherished her time at church, attending First Baptist Church of Sarasota, Florida, and Dunwoody Baptist Church in Georgia. Known for her warmth, humor, and legendary peanut butter cookies, she brought joy to everyone she met.
An enthusiastic tennis player, Shirley competed well into her 80s with teams from the Atlanta Athletic Club and Rosedale Tennis Club in Florida. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother who filled her home with love and encouragement.
Her life beautifully reflected Proverbs 31:28a, 31: “Her children arise and call her blessed. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Shirley’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
