Who We Are

Our vision is a community in which individuals and families experience spiritual, personal, social, and economic well-being through the demonstration of Christ's love.

Our mission is to provide volunteer resources and serve as an intercessor on behalf of organizations serving the poor and marginalized in our community.

How We Plan to Accomplish Our Mission:

By focusing our efforts into four areas: Education, Poverty, Justice & Families, we will be able to have greater impact in the community by providing for immediate needs (Compassionate Relief), to create strategies to break down cycles of poverty and injustice (personal empowerment) and to be a catalyst for transforming culture (Community Development).

Accomplish Our Mission:

  • Compassionate Relief

Relief is the most common response to the great needs we encounter on a regular basis in our community. It involves the immediate and direct support and assistance to the pressing physical, material, emotional and economic needs of our neighbors. Jesus promised that even a cup of cold water given to relieve thirst would be rewarded by Him. Further, Jesus teaching on the Good Samaritan (Luke 10) provides ample encouragement for God's people to love all of our neighbors, to look at the distress around us and allow that looking to lead to compassion, which leads to action.

Examples of Compassionate Relief are serving food at homeless shelters, food and clothing drives for organizations on the frontlines of addressing poverty in our community, fundraising for disaster relief requests, providing income for rent payments or temporary shelter, providing free or low cost medical or professional counseling services, encouraging and assisting singles moms, supporting the elderly, and providing protection for those suffering from domestic abuse and other forms of violence.

We encourage everyone to look for opportunities to extend mercy to their neighbors. We encourage every  Journey Group to rally around the various needs of any of its members. Finally, we encourage [Neighborhood] Communities to regularly work together to provide relief to an urgent need in the places where we live.

In following Jesus' teaching to provide relief, we meet the most basic urgent needs before us and experience instant short-term results but often fail to make the lasting impact needed to move an individual forward in life with growing strength and security.

Isaiah 58:9-12

If you get rid of unfair practices, quit blaming victims,
quit gossiping about other people's sins,
If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out,
Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
I will always show you where to go.
I'll give you a full life in the emptiest of places-firm muscles, strong bones.
You'll be like a well-watered garden, a gurgling spring that never runs dry.
You'll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew, rebuild the foundations from out of your past.
You'll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate
