Spiritual Formation

Equipping you to follow Jesus

We Want To Help You Grow

Spiritual formation is the process of becoming more like Jesus as our faith grows and shapes our lives. The model on this page is designed to help you pursue that goal.

Head, heart, and hands

It Starts With Jesus

The starting point of this model is being united to Jesus by trusting in his good news. Our new life in Christ transforms how we see ourselves and engage with the world around us, thanks to the Holy Spirit guiding and forming us.

A holistic life model

It Shapes All Of You

Spiritual formation involves not just one part of your life, but your whole self.  This model isn’t something to add to your life, but rather a new lens through which to view the existing areas of your life. We’ve divided these into seven categories.

Holistic worship

Recognizing all of life is worship to God, not just on Sunday mornings.

Missional living

Embracing God’s kingdom’s purposes in the world through word and action.

Kingdom calling

Using my gifts and vocation for the sake of the common good and His kingdom.

Godly character

Becoming increasingly like Jesus, inwardly and outwardly.

God-honoring relationships

Seeking to honor God in every relationship, because God first restored me.

Wise stewardship

Seeing everything as a gift from God to steward well for his glory and kingdom.

Spiritual multiplication

Following the example and obeying the command of Jesus to make disciples.

Keep in mind

These areas overlap—a lot.

We know life is not divided into neat lines and categories. However, it can be helpful to think of them like this to more easily identify areas for growth.

This is not a linear path for growth.

Life happens in seasons, and there are times when you need to focus on specific areas. Your need for growth will fluctuate as you move through various stages of life.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start on my spiritual formation journey?

One of the best opportunities to begin is in our 9 AM Equipping Class on Sunday mornings. This environment is a great place to grow in your understanding of God’s Word and connect with others at Perimeter who are learning and growing. It can also be a great launchpad for other equipping opportunities that come up throughout the year.

I feel like I need to grow in all seven areas. What should I do?

You’re not alone. In fact, every human being needs to grow in all seven areas! However, it’s important to pace yourself and be mindful of your capacity. We believe a healthy approach is to focus on one or two life areas at a time. There’s no deadline, checklist or milestone to hit on this journey. The only goal is to look more and more like Jesus. We would encourage you to take some time to pray and ask God to show you the area to focus on first, then explore the opportunities to grow in that area.

I want to grow in a specific area, but don't see many opportunities.

Depending on the time of year, there may be more opportunities in one area than others. New opportunities emerge throughout the year. We can certainly let you know when to be on the lookout for any in your area of interest, and in the meantime recommend similar opportunities that may be available. Please reach out and let us know, we would be happy to help guide you.

Are all of these opportunities classes or groups?

No, there are lots of ways you can grow in these areas individually. In fact, things like personal worship practices and spiritual disciplines are an important and healthy part of your growth as a follower of Jesus. In addition to larger environments like classes, seminars, and workshops, we also recommend smaller environments like discipleship and community groups. Our teaching team has also compiled a number of recommended resources to equip you. Let us know if you would like to connect with a ministry leader to discuss other resources to equip you in your spiritual formation.
