Student Ministries Pastoral Letter | January 2026

Dear families,

As we reflect on the Christmas season that just passed and begin to look toward a new year, many of us naturally consider what matters most. We start setting resolutions for ourselves and our families because time feels especially fragile this season. Children grow quickly, calendars fill fast, and another year seems to arrive before we’re ready. As you step into 2026, I’d like to offer one simple invitation for your family: show up.

At Christmas, we rejoice that God Himself showed up. In the incarnation, Jesus did not love us from a distance; He took on flesh and dwelt among us. God’s nearness to us in Christ gives shape to how we approach and pour into the lives of our students. When we are present with our students, especially in ordinary, everyday moments, we reflect something true about the God who draws near to His people. So here is a simple New Year’s charge for 2026: resolve to be faithfully present. Not perfect, not impressive -just present. That presence might look like protecting a weekly family meal, putting the phone away during conversations, or choosing margin over one more activity. These small acts of faithfulness matter more than we often realize, and God delights to use them to shape young hearts.

Part of showing up well is learning to rest. In a culture that celebrates constant motion and packed schedules, God gives His people the gift of Sabbath, not as a burden, but as grace. Sabbath rhythms remind us that we are not the ones holding everything together. Setting aside regular time for rest, worship, and delight teaches our students that our lives are anchored not in productivity, but in trust. None of us will live this out flawlessly. There will be busy weeks, missed moments, and tired days. But the good news as we enter a new year is this: the same Savior who came near to us at Christmas remains with us in every season.

My prayer for you and your family in 2026 is that your home would be shaped by presence and rest, by showing up for one another and learning to rest in the Lord together. May our students come to know, through your love and your rhythms, the nearness and faithfulness of our gracious God.

In Christ,
