There are times in life when you feel the good Lord tap you on the shoulder and “suggest” you take a good hard look at doing something out of your comfort zone. I am doing exactly that later this summer and honestly, I am quite excited about it.
From July 12-16 I will travel to Guatemala with several others from our Perimeter congregation to be part of a business-focused training mission. Enterprise development is an important element for impoverished and emerging economies, and small business formation is a proven approach to allow people to pull themselves out of poverty by giving them the opportunity to become a successful entrepreneur.
Our team’s role will be to work with nearly 40 pre-selected participants and guide them through planning, budget and cash flow projections by sharing our business knowledge and delivering a formalized business training program as a vital step in the cycle of creating enterprise.
A prior team has already worked with these individuals on fundamental business principles, including an introduction to risks, methodologies of market research, understanding customer needs and basic accounting principles.
In the end, up to six (6) of these budding entrepreneurs can receive a one-year grant up to $2,000 (with two years to repay) to help launch their business, instilling a pride and dignity so critical to success.
The total cost to participate in this mission is $1,500. I am individually responsible for raising this support.
