Hi!
Linda and I are leaving Friday night for Dublin, leading a team of six on a GO Journey in support of our Sports Across Ireland partner's fall camp. Our other team members are Lori Allison, Kimberly Reed, Charles Hunt, and Kendall Hunt. We will be serving as coaches and co-leaders alongside 25-30 leaders from the community of Ballymun. There will be about 150 youth aged 6-14 participating in sports (basketball, soccer, playground games), arts and crafts, and dance.
A snapshot of Ballymum: it is a community of Dublin, Ireland with an estimated population of 20,000 people. These residents are 70% single parent families, 15% are disabled and 22% unemployed. A quarter of this community are children under the age of 14. The community struggles with high rates of alcoholism drug addiction and suicides. It could easily be viewed as a depressed and despairing community, with children & families needing encouragement, affirmation of their value and a hope for their future. The camp’s mission is to build faith, character and self-esteem in the children.
At the end of the week Dennis will be leaving the camp to join Monte Starkes for two Life on Life Missional Discipleship Envisioning events, Friday in Dublin and Saturday in Bangor, Northern Ireland. This is in follow-up to the interest generated by Randy Pope's speaking at the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Special Assembly in August.
Please pray for these specific requests:
For safe and uneventful travel (Oct. 27 and Nov. 5) and good health for the team.
That Dan and Amy Tabb would be encouraged by our team's support.
That the youth in the camp would catch a glimpse of the gospel through us.
For just the right church leaders to participate in the LOLMD Envisioning events.
That we would be encouraged by clearly seeing how God is at work in Ireland.
Above all, that God would be glorified and His Kingdom might grow. We continue to pray for a revival to sweep across Ireland.
Thanks for your prayers.
“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us…”
