Financial Principles for Teens

WHAT

Biblical financial principles class

WHO

High school students in grades 11 and 12

WHEN

February 5 – March 12

Does God care about your heart?

Or your money?

How about both?

In this financial principles class just for teens, you’ll learn what God has to say about money and possessions, how you can practically apply these words to your life, and how you can grow in leaps and bounds in your faithful use of the finances God entrusts to you—now and in the future.

This is a new offering for Perimeter Church high school juniors and seniors, so we are looking for students who will take the class and help improve it for future groups! Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Test-drive the curriculum
  • Provide feedback on both the content and the class format
  • Earn a financial reward for successful completion!

Get Started on the Right Financial Footing

This class is being offered just to high school juniors and seniors for a reason. After high school, you will have more financial freedom—and responsibility—than ever before. Whether you are getting a job, joining the military, or going to college, you will have to make important money decisions every day.

We pray you will walk away from this course with a deeper understanding of what God's Word says about faithful use of finances and feel better equipped to handle your own money.

FAQ

  • Who can take the class?

This class is only open to high school juniors and seniors (grades 11 and 12).

This initial class is for Perimeter teen members, the children of Perimeter Church members, or the children of active, regular attenders of Perimeter Church. If you would like to request an exception, please fill out the survey anyway! Information on the survey is below under “How can I join?”

  • Is the class in-person or virtual?

    This class is a hybrid:

    1. There will be a Zoom meeting at the beginning (February 5).
    2. There will be a Zoom meeting at the halfway point (week of February 20).
    3. There will be an in-person lunch meeting at the end (after church on March 12).
    4. The four class sessions will be done on your computer at your own pace.
  • What is the class schedule?

The class will kick off on February 5 and will finish on March 12—well before spring break!

February 5 (Time TBD): Kickoff Zoom meeting

    • There will be an opportunity for parents/guardians to join for the first few minutes to ask questions and learn about the class
    • The group will go through the Introduction content together

February 6-19: Complete Weeks 1-2 on your own

    • Take the online quiz at the end of each section

    • Lunch will be provided
    • We will want your feedback on both the class content and format
  • How much time will I need to invest?

    • Each Zoom meeting will last approximately an hour.
    • Each session will take approximately an hour to compete, plus a few minutes to complete the quiz and reflection questions (in a Google doc).
    • The final, in-person meeting will probably last 1.5 hours, including lunch.
  • What materials do I need?

The curriculum we are using is “Simplifying the Money Conversation” from the Ron Blue Institute. Each participant will need to purchase the online version of the curriculum, which costs approximately $15.

In addition, you will need to set up a Google doc to record your answers to reflection questions. You will share this doc with the class leaders.

  • What is the financial reward for successful completion?

Perimeter Church feels so strongly that this is important content for you and your future, you will have the opportunity to earn $250 upon successful completion. Successful completion is defined as:

    ·       Completion of all material (pass quizzes, share reflection question answers in Google doc)

    ·       Attend 3 group sessions and provide constructive feedback at wrap-up session.

What you do with your financial reward is up to you!

    ·       Save it for future educational expenses

    ·       Use for graduation or other personal expenses

    ·       Support a ministry that is important to you

    ·       “Pay it forward” by blessing someone in need

We will not ask you what you chose to do with it. If, however, you have a story to share about how the $250 blessed you or someone else, we would love to hear from you!

I’m interested! How can I join?

We are limiting the number of participants this cycle, so there is a chance we may not be able to accept all applicants.

  1. Fill out a very short interest survey. The survey will be open through January 29.
  2. We will get back to you on whether you have been accepted in the class no later than January 30.
  3. Do not purchase the materials until you hear from us! We will provide information on where to purchase the online curriculum.
