I love when God catches me by surprise. An idea that would never have been my own, seems impossible even to consider, is confirmed again and again in the circumstances around me and in the words of His people.
Since August of last year, I have been praying for God to show me ways to serve. God’s timing is not our own, so I waited month after month, wondering if I was asking the right question.
Then, a few weeks ago, from the mouth of a friend at church, God told me to go to Tanzania. ("Wait, what?") I'd just stopped by the mission table to say, "Hi!", but my friend, Dave, was not there to chit-chat. He explained that the trip in April was a medical mission to serve the remote village of Karansi. Students would receive their government mandated health screenings, followed by an open medical clinic for the widows and other villagers. “We’ve never had a Pharmacist. We need you.” Despite five months of praying for a chance to serve, I was completely surprised by his request. “Oh, not me”, I thought. “It’s during school, I’d have to go without my family and friends; this is not what I would have planned.” Over the next few days, I spoke with trip leaders and Paul, and I prayed, but I still couldn't 'see the plan'. The following Sunday, God made things plainly clear. His plans for Karansi will be fulfilled with or without me, but in His grace, He invited me to serve to give me the opportunity to grow. Taking away the comforts of home and family, the job where I feel sure-footed and able, God is planning to show me what it means to really trust Him. In the beautiful way that He works, God will remove my crutches so I will lean on Him.
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide. . ." (John 15:16)
Will you join me in this? It would be a blessing to me to know that you are praying for our trip. Praying that we would accomplish all of His plans in the lives of the people of Karansi. Praying that God would work in our own hearts as He refines each of us as we serve His people. I believe it will be a blessing to you, as well.

We were a few minutes late to church that first Sunday. We had to walk in across the front, behind the choir, while the church was on their feet, physically worshipping in dance and song. They graciously provided seats for us, right up front in a place of honor, so we would not miss out. But we stuck out. Initially uncomfortable with the attention and unfamiliarity, there we were, a handful of white people standing still in a moving wave of Tanzanians pouring their hearts out to God. Eventually, the awkwardness passed and the joy of the moment enveloped us. Paster was gracious enough to provide a translator for the entire sermon, inviting us to join the congregation in hearing the word of God. After a few minutes, Pastor publicly greeted us and proclaimed, \"You are not visitors here. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. We are all one body.\" Not a single one of us missed the connection to the message of Greater Love we\'ve been hearing at Perimeter. We were overcome with gratitude to experience just a moment of what true inclusion looks and feels like.
Much ado has been made about the missing meds, but many of you may not have heard stories of the medical supplies we were able to bring in. Todd\'s professional medical connections donated bags and boxes full of supplies he was able to use to clean the feet of countless students and villagers. In a very tangible act of Christ, he washed the feet of the least of these. Friends, our God will not be stopped. His love will be shared with whom He pleases, in His time, in His way, using His people. At the end of our trip, we were thrilled to still have enough to donate 3-4 suitcases of much needed medical supplies to the local hospital. God is still multiplying His loaves and fishes.
Over lunch one day, Todd asked Headmaster Godfrey if there was something that struck him about people he\'d met from Perimeter church. “Your hearts,\" he said. \"You gave up so much, sacrificed so much to come here. You leave your job, your nice home, your family, you give up your money and your time. . .I see Jesus in all of this. You are doing what He did. He gave up his heavenly home, communion with God, his riches, his time, to reach His people. This is what you are doing. . .doing what Jesus did.\" We are unspeakably grateful for our role in this story. Friends, you are also apart of this. You have given your riches to send us, your time in prayer to bless us. We are all doing what Christ has called us to do.

Two Weeks to Go!
Well, actually 16 days until we board the plane, but our trip prayer night is two weeks from today. I would love for you to join us in praying for the success and safety of our trip, either in person or in spirit. We will meet at Perimeter Church in the Fellowship Hall at 8:00pm on Tuesday, 4/17.
Specific requests are that we will effectively care for the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Karansi, that we work well together as a team, and that we remain safe and in good health. Please pray that God remains the center of our trip and that our decisions and actions are led by Him. I know life-changing lessons will be learned by all, and I pray that we do not forget these once we return to the comfort and abundance at home in America.
Thank you, all, for your support and contributions. Things are really coming together! Tickets and visas have been secured, medicines and supplies are being ordered and gathered, and gifts and letters for sponsor children are being collected. It\'s an exciting time!
Have a wonderful week!
In Him,
Heidi

Happy, rainy morning!
I wanted to give you an update on our team and share some prayer requests. First, though, I want to thank you for all of your support and prayers. Your generosity is incredibly encouraging to me.
Our team is down to eight members after two had to back out due to scheduling issues. Unfortunately, one of them was our physician. He will be able to go later in the summer, so we\'re grateful for that! My prayer is that we will be able to locally hire the number of Tanzanian doctors we will need to care for 500-600 people that week. We will be setting up clinic in the church and have space for three nurses and up to 5 physicians. I\'ll be filling prescriptions across the street in the space where the new public library will be.
Another prayer request is more personal. Our return tickets were accidentally booked for one day later than planned. We are now coming home on May 1, instead of April 30. Paul, home with the kids for one more day, is fine with this (great man!), but I still ask for your prayers for our little family. I know they are all excited to have some Dad-kiddo time, and Paul is more than capable, but 12 days is a long time to manage 3 busy kid schedules, a house and run a business all on your own. I pray that God uses this time to encourage more responsibility in our kids, and that He brings the four of them even closer together.
I have been assigned the job of team blogger while we\'re there, so expect to hear a lot from me!
Blessings,
Heidi
