Mentoring Children and Youth

KIDS HOPE USA - SCHOOL MENTOR OVERVIEW

LIKE US

Perimeter Church partners with seven elementary schools and two middle schools within our City Impact region with whom we share the goal that every child would graduate from high school. Establishing these relationships with area public schools provides an abundance of ways for us to serve, positively influence and bless children and their families. The needs are great and more urgent than ever after the crazy year 2020 unfolded to be, especially for our school partners.

The mentoring ministry through Perimeter Church began a decade ago with a national, non-profit partner, Kids Hope USA. Our leaders have been trained and in turn, train and provide ongoing support and encouragement to volunteer mentors. Each trained mentor engages in a one-on-one relationship with a child at their neighboring school, meeting for just one hour each week.

WHY SHOULD YOU INVEST IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT?

Sharing an hour each week befriending a child, becoming his/her cheerleader, and demonstrating the love of Jesus is an invaluable investment of your time.  The love, encouragement and care that you can give may very well be the difference between failure and success!

  • Berkeley Lake Elementary School

Berkeley Lake Elementary School (BLES) has been part of the Duluth cluster of schools for over 35 years. Classified as Title 1, BLES serves a diverse population of students and their families from communities in and around the City of Berkeley Lake. The faculty and staff of BLES are great to work alongside and so complimentary of the positive impact made on the lives of their students through this ministry. Enthusiasm is building as we prepare to return to serve students in need of another loving, caring adult in their lives. Please contact Mary Lou Heaner if you have questions or are interested in serving at Berkeley Lake El. - marylouh@perimeter.org.

  • Chattahoochee Elementary School

Chattahoochee Elementary School, located off Albion Farm Road in Duluth, has grown since its 1989 opening to serve nearly 1400 students. Principal Mark Moon, his faculty and staff are expressly appreciative of the positive impact our first dozen mentors have been having on their students and look forward to another great year through this Perimeter partnership. They believe that every student at Chattahoochee would benefit from a mentor! If you would like to be a part of this great ministry at Chattahoochee Elementary School please contact Eva Orazi at evaorazi@gmail.com.

  • Creek View Elementary School

Located off Webb Bridge Road in Alpharetta, Creek View Elementary School sings praises for our mentor team and the relationships that have aided in notable improvement within the areas of student academic and social/emotional progress. If you would like to become a part of this impactful ministry, which has been in place since 2015, please contact Gary Schubert at garyschubert@comcast.net.

  • Findley Oaks Elementary School

Located in Johns Creek, Findley Oaks Elementary is our newest, Kids Hope USA school partner. The mission of Findley Oaks El. is “to help each student achieve to the best of his or her ability, and to help students learn to make good decisions.” In order to help students achieve their best, partnership with caring mentors is highly beneficial. Therefore, the need for more mentors continues to grow. If you would like to make a real difference in the life of a child by spending an hour each week cheering him/her on to do well in school, please contact Sandra Hua at shua32@yahoo.com.

  • Manning Oaks Elementary School

Manning Oaks Elementary School is located in Alpharetta on Cumming Street. At the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, the new principal had come from Creek View Elementary School where she had been Assistant Principal. At Creek View, she had seen Kids Hope in action since 2015, and because of its success, she wanted to bring the program to Manning Oaks as well. Continuing through succeeding school years, the need for more mentors to build caring relationships with students who need Kids Hope has kept increasing, well beyond the number of available volunteers. Consider joining the outstanding Manning Oaks Kids Hope group of mentors! Contact Gary Schubert for more information at garyschubert@comcast.net.

  • Medlock Bridge Elementary School

In the Fall of 2013, the Kids Hope program began at Medlock Bridge Elementary School which is located in Johns Creek. It is the partnering school nearest to the church itself. Principal Matthew Vance is keenly aware of the positive impact made by our mentors in his school and would like to see many more mentors develop relationships with his students. If you have questions or would like to find out how you can become a part of this ministry, please contact Carla Sullivan (carmars@aol.com) OR Martha Griffin (Martha.m.griffin80@gmail.com).

  • Peachtree Elementary School

Located in Peachtree Corners, Peachtree Elementary School was our very first Kids Hope USA partnership. In recent years, we have partnered with Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church located a stone’s throw from the school. Together, mentors have positively impacted the lives of many children creating an exemplary, sustaining presence in that school and in the Norcross/Peachtree Corners area. The need for more mentors continues to grow, so if you would like to make a real difference in the life of an at-risk child by spending an hour each week cheering him/her on to do well in school, please contact Mary Lou Heaner - marylouh@perimeter.org.
