Adventure That Builds Community

For six GloryKids families, a morning of adventure became a beautiful expression of Christ-centered community.

On a sunny, crisp March morning, laughter echoed through the woods at Perimeter’s campus as six GloryKids families gathered for a special day with Sojourn Adventures.

Known for its amazing ropes courses, zip lines, and team-building experiences, Sojourn Adventures is a ministry of Perimeter Church which regularly welcomes schools, businesses, and community groups onto our campus. This day, however, was dedicated to families served by GloryKids, Perimeter’s ministry for individuals with special needs.

Nineteen participants arrived ready for adventure. They took part in adapted ground games, climbed the cargo net, and soared on the triple zip line using adaptive harnesses. Thanks to thoughtful accommodations, everyone could join the fun, including those who use wheelchairs or face mobility challenges.

Just as memorable as the activities was the opportunity for families to connect with one another. For many families navigating the challenges of special needs, opportunities for connection can be harder to find, often leading to feelings of isolation.

“We had a wonderful time together. The Sojourn team was incredibly welcoming and made every part of the experience feel seamless. Their willingness to adapt and intentionally include everyone reflected God’s love and hospitality. The day was a beautiful picture of His heart for community, where every person is valued, every family is welcomed, and no one walks alone,” said Ly Medeiros, KidsThrive Special Needs Volunteer Manager.
