When Perimeter members Linda and Dennis Lee first began making mission trips to Ireland and Northern Ireland in 2011, many people there were unsure of their intentions. A local pastor offered guidance that shaped their ministry: “Just keep coming, and people will know you care.” So they did, returning every year, at least twice a year, since then.
Linda said, “When we first started out, we weren’t sure how this was going to go. We learned we had to wait upon God.” The Lees had been involved in global missions at Perimeter since the 2000s, with Dennis traveling to Tanzania and Linda to India. This opportunity in Ireland was something they could pursue together as a couple and felt aligned with their experience, passion, and gifts.
Over the years, friends in Ireland became like family. The Lees grew to love the beauty of the landscape and the humor of the people, while grieving the lack of hope many experienced. Trust in the church had eroded, and unemployment, alcoholism, and despair had grown.
Through long-term investment, the Lees and the global team built strong relationships with pastors, churches, and missionaries. Life on Life discipleship slowly took root and has now spread to ten churches. They also regularly led GO Journey teams to serve alongside missionary partner Dan Tabb at Sports Across Ireland, which hosts day camps to share the gospel with children from difficult home situations.
Through all their years invested in Ireland, the Lees have longed for the Irish people to find their hope in Jesus. On a trip last year, they experienced an unexpected encouragement. As they walked down O’Connell Street, they suddenly found themselves among 12,000 people marching and singing praise songs. Linda said, “It was so terrific. People from all over Ireland came to praise the name of Jesus!”
